As recently as 2007, a nationalist political movement/party had gained popularity in Germany. The party contained members who used anti-immigrant rhetoric. Seeing the current global economic crisis, would it be naive to believe that another like situation could happen? What are the signs to prevent this happening again?

Me gustaría saber cuales fueron las estrategias especificas que utilizo Hitler para convencer a la gente de que los judíos eran "El Problema"
1) Why after all the atrocities and horrible things that Hitler did, people (rest of the nation that wasn't Jewish) kept following him even though they knew is was getting out of order, it wasn't good anymore? WHY?!!!
2) How did he became so "famous" so quickly?
3) Did he really think that Jews were the economic problem, or did he used that as an excuse so he could vent- "desahogar"- his anger towards them?

Los judíos se iban por unas rutas en especificas y lo hacian en grandes masas. Los alemanes no sabian nada de eso? Es decir, era una manera facil y rapida de exterminarlos o, los dejaban escapar para que ellos, los judios, pensaran que estaban a un paso de la libertad?

Y que hay de los experimentos que hacian con los judios de aclararle los ojos con acido, Hitler esperaba que si resultaban exitosos le hicieron una serie de experimentos a el para asi verse mas "perfecto" y eliminar el mas minimo trazo de descendencia judia? Nunca penso en cambiar su imagen no "pura"?
Quiero comentar que la conferencia estuvo muy interesante y cuando estabamos a punto de entrar a lo mejor, el tiempo nos traicionó. Deseo añadir que muchas de las preguntas que mis compañeros han hecho, yo me las pregunté de igual manera. Muchos no saben que Hitler era pintor y que todos lo rechazaban, en especial los judíos. Esto provocó en Hitler rabia, aunque no justifico su comportamiento. Hitler logró entrar al army y se destacó, recibiendo medallas que ningún soldado común recibiría. De ahí, logra ganar las elecciones por una gran cantidad de votos y comienza a culpar a los judíos de la crisis económica que existía por la perdida de la 1 Guerra Mundial. Otro punto importante es que los alemanes no sabía en su totalidad lo que Hitler estaba haciendo con los judíos, de hecho, al final de la 2 Guerra Mundial se les ordenó a los alemanes a recoger y enterrar todos los cadáveres para que vieran la verdad de lo ocurrido. También se ordenó tomar fotografías como prueba. Y hoy día, alemanes de 50 a 80 años dicen que esto es solo una historia inventada por los E.U.A. Por último, quiero añadir que la manera en que Hitler tenía fondos para la guerra era explotando a los mismos judíos, haciendo que ellos crearan y trabajaran para los alemanes. Me gustaria saber que experiencia tuvo en su vida con su familia (queera judia) que lo marco de tal manera que queria matar a los judios?Como la gente se dejo convencer tan facilmente cuando muchos tenian judios como amigos y parte de su familia?

A psychological trauma or sociologic past experience maybe…? However, one can’t build upon something without having a solid foundation. I can’t truly, even try, to understand Hitler motives without a clear a foundation. Although, what I can be certain of is who Hitler is not. Many people depict him to be a ruthless, rude, obnoxious, careless, senseless man. Nevertheless, how could he possibly be the later while having hundreds of thousands of followers at the time. He must have been a charming, intellectual, honorable [in a way (receiving honor ribbons as a soldier)] strategic, with great interpersonal and leadership skills, and highly intelligent. I am NOT supporting him but the image one has of this man must be analyzed and recreated keeping in mind his persuasive strategies and/or capabilities. A knife in the hands of an experienced chef has the capacity to make a gourmet meal but in hands of a murdered contains the capability to destroy many lives. “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.” –Adolf Hitler. What to believe of Hitler? Who can say who he was without meeting the “monster” himself.
Solo queria comentar la presentacion y dejar mi punto de vista sobre lo del racismo. La presentacion excelente y super informativa, habian inumerables temas de los que no sabia. Busque un poco de informacion adicional sobre el racismo y si no me equivoco Hitler junto con sus nazis pusieron en practica su ideologia de que junto con la ciencia podian mejorar la raza humana reduciendo la reproduccion de esas personas a las q ellos le llamaban "inferiores". En mi cabeza todavia no cabe la idea de como un ser y sus seguidores pueden tener ese tipo de pensar, ellos se consideraban como una raza aparte, dejando afuera a todos los q no vieran como "suyos". I would like to know what types of strategies Hitler used to convince the people to follow him and who was his opponent on the elections. I mean he wow the elections with 80% of the people voting for him. He must have had great persuasive abilities.
My opinion will be towards both the presentation in class and the life of hitler. Class went great and many information was given and explained. Although i looked up more about the life and powerful personality of hitler. He had great carisma and the ability to join groups and people into one idea and lead in it. What most impresses me is the way his minister and leader said ... "i never really got to know him" which describes the way he can create and continue to expand his goals. By the way i am not defending him for his acts , but just admire his personality and use it as a guide for psicologic help towards peoples problems with racism, culture and historical backround.

I have always had these two questions in my mind that wake up my curiosity toward the topic: Does the main purpose of Hitler’s acts were to create a worldwide revolution or just to sacrifice all the people that was not like them (pure) and that were a “disgrace to them”? Why didn’t the Jews fought against the Germans that were the minority while they could? Today, in the world, in different countries, we keep repeating the same mistakes and atrocities from the past. For example, like the discrimination with the Latin people in USA. Even in Puerto Rico there are shameful examples like the Ponce Massacre on 1937 and the Police brutality that recently occurred on the Capitol. In other words, through time the society criticizes the wrong acts, but they are still been done. Apparently, to know where we are going, we need to know where we come from and where we are standing. If we continue doing the same mistakes we are going nowhere, and also mean that we have learned nothing about our past and history. Additionally, the presentation Prof. Gonzalez did was really interesting because I could understand and know more about the World War I. Also, refreshed my memory because there were details I had forgot.
También me gustaría añadir que hace unos años leí una novela llamada 1984 del autor George Orwell que trata sobre el totalitarismo y a través de ella se muestra cómo los personajes principales tratan de ir en contra de lo prohibido por este gobierno. Los temas que se muestran durante la trama se asemejan a los que los alemanes aplicaron a los judíos y los que todavía se ven “disimuladamente” hoy día. Por ejemplo, la sicología, el lavado de cerebro y la manipulación son algunas de las estrategias utilizadas para controlar la sociedad que sufre en la novela, y si se analiza bien, que en la historia real también se han visto.
